Risk Asessment Tool

This tool is designed to estimate the risk associated with a given missing person’s case. The primary purpose of the tool is to help investigators, law enforcement, and other stakeholders empirically assess and triage each case.  The tool is based upon the following approach used in the UK:

      • Phoenix, J., & Francis, B. J. (2022). Police risk assessment and case outcomes in missing person investigations. The Police Journal, 96(3), 390-410. https://doi.org/10.1177/0032258X221087829 (Original work published 2023).

A guide for inquiring about risk factors can be found at:

      • Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) (2005) Guidance on the Management, Recording and Investigation of Missing Persons. Bramshill: National Centre for Policing Excellence. Available from: http://library.college.police.uk/docs/acpo/Missing-Persons-2005-ACPO-Guidance.pdf (Accessed 1 Apr 2020).
